“Rake me up before you go-go”? who doesn’t love a good pun-down. A new batch of these excellent @taskrabbit ads is welcome news for jaded commuters everywhere.
I love the full commitment to the joke here, maxing out the typeface and literally putting the gag front and centre, reinforced by an engaging visual that showcases the product while reassuring you that a total psychopath isn’t going to show up to mow your lawn. The photo also acts as a subtle reinforcement of the joke. See what we did here? It’s about raking things.
Despite TubeAdCritic policy of reviewing every ad as standalone, I must give a special mention to the variant that proclaims: “You Are Never Ever.. ..Putting That Together” with accompanying visuals of a flatpack wardrobe. It’s a testament to how relatable these campaigns are that multiple people have mentioned to me their favourite Taskrabbit puns over the last year. Or perhaps that says more about my circle of friends.
Will it succeed? Well, not everyone is going to get every reference, but I’d be willing to bet that the most affluent target customers will know the older song titles.
